Hi, I am a male freshman in high school who has never swam before except for 1 season of high school water polo. Im trying to get in as much water sports as i can because I love it so much. My question is what is a good swimming time too shoot for as a new swimmer, especially in Butterfly, Freestyle, and Breaststroke? My other question is, is what events are speedo's and jammers good for? Thank you :)

As you practice, your times will improve. Don't sweat it.

Swimwear companies invented jammers to take advantage of shy American swimmers.

Briefs are cheaper and better, so they make more sense than jammers for all purposes.

If you're concerned about drag, shave arms, legs and torso for meets.

Kiefer has good 100% nylon suits for practice... http://www.kiefer.com/ProductDetails/StyleMasterDetails.aspx?pid={a7ea4db9-ccca-4580-93c6-f8a406fa3e81}&gid={78768a33-f206-4020-8d10-b58ed17d1798}&GroupName=Kiefer+Mens+Suits&pname=Kiefer+PE+Male+Suit+20-50&Referer=&Alias=&ptct=SGR-SR&CTitle=& ...and truWest has great inexpensive briefs.

don't worry about your times. If you are good at water polo you will be good enough for the team. It will probably take a while to get in great shape for racing, and you don't want to get discouraged with early results.

In any racing event you will probably be swimming with people who wear speedo's and jammers. They are good for all swimming events.

Well since you already swam water polo, and i consider water polo much harder then swimming your times should be set around

50 free: 26-27

100 free: 1:00 - 1:02

50 back: 28-27

100 back: 1:04

Thats what some of our freshmen swim. Hope this helps
