One of the hardest parts about improving your swim stroke is you are not able to see what your body is doing. Most sports you can look in the mirror and get an idea of what you look like. Go to your neighborhood recreation center and get lessons. Even if you know how to swim there should be classes on improving stroke technique. Read. Swimming magazines usually have excellent sections on drills and tips to improve your stroke.

If you are on a swim team (like me) then ask your coach! IF not then I am sure there is some web site that will help you or hit the library (sorry about my spelling) or a book store and get a book. After my coach helped me with my technique i improved my time by 7 seconds!

First, start out on your dive. Make sure you don't do a belly-flop or a pencil dive. You should have a streamline dive and fly through the air off the block. Working on flipturns helped me a lot with my freestyle. Make sure they're fast and you get a good kick off the wall. Streamline, build muscle on the arm will help, flipturns, and the start. The stroke itself would have to be shown to you in the pool. Breathing is one more-you should not breath every stroke-you should breath every 4 or 5 strokes at least. Last thing for the flipturns- you have to come hard into the wall to come off it hard- don't take any breaths past the flags. Flutter kick. Endurance is key for the 100. Instead of practicing 100's for 100's, practice 200's for 100's to train your breathing and stroke. Keep training and practice your breathing and you should do well.

If you are on a swim team than ask your coach if there are drills that you can do to help your stroke. If you are not slow down the stroke a little and concetrate on what and where your arms , hips, and legs are and what they are doing in contrast to eachother!!

Get a coach. Beyond that, work on keeping a constant and brisk pace.
