I want to join the swim team. If I do, then I will be swimming 4 times a week, 2 hours a day.

I'm very worried of the affects the chlorine will have on my hair. It's already extremely damaged and it's in the process of recovering, lol. If I join the swim team, I hear it will get bleached lighter and get damaged and get thinner. I love my thick hair (no bragging intending, sorry), and I don't want to destroy it. Do you know anything I can do to prevent this nightmare from happening? lol. Tips? Shampoo recomendations? Remedies? Anything?

no worries! i have thick hair too!(haha no bragging intended) but i just wear my swim cap whenever i got to practice and i use leave-in-conditioner before you swim. that definetly will help. for a shampoo you can also try natural products such as Nautre's Gate (herbal). hope that helps! if you have any more questions just email! :)

I have been on a swim team for about 9 years. The affects I get is sometimes my hair can get a little lighter and it doesn't get damaged because I wear a swim cap. Water can still get into my swim caps so my hair goes get a little lighter but it doesn't turn green...haha. I use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner or any kind of shampoo and conditioner after I swim and it helps my hair from getting damaged

Hair and skin care are definitely the major drawbacks of the sport. Make sure you wear a swim cap. Use an anti-chlorine or anti-residue shampoo, immediately after swimming. Follow up with a moisturizing conditioner and maybe use a leave-in conditioner.

I have thick hair as well and I've maintained it after years of swimming.

Don't worry about it swimming is a great sport it will add years to your life since it keeps you fit working pretty much all parts of your body.

You can buy shampoos that will remove the chlorine and you could continue to use your current hair products.

I would recommend for you to swim and not to worry so much about your hair.

It all depends on your priorities.

Best of Luck!

Wear a swim cap. Also what you can do is uses a hydrating shampoo and conditioner with a deep conditioning at least once a month.
