The NAUI Master Scuba Diver certification is listed as a prerequisite for any leadership level training, so you should have completed the Master Scuba Diver course (and the Scuba Rescue Diver course) before being allowed to sign up for the Divemaster course.

An exception is allowed for experienced individuals from other agencies who wish to crossover to NAUI, for example a PADI DM. In that case, the individual is required to pass the NAUI Master Scuba Diver exam before completing the course.

Here's the exact prerequisite wording from NAUI (see http://www.naui.org/leadership_courses.aspx )

"Diver Certification - Certification as NAUI Master Scuba Diver and NAUI Scuba Rescue Diver or their equivalent. Divers with evidence of equivalent training and experience may be enrolled provided they pass the NAUI Master Scuba Diver written examination with a minimum score of 75%."

So the answer here should be no, but the real question is how did you get into the DM class without taking the MSD class first unless you crossed over from another agency.
