I'm a runner but recently I've been swimming to relieve my joints. If I swim a mile, how does that compare to going for a run calorie-wise?

Oh god, swimming a mile is something you have to train for. Anyone can jog a mile, it does take quite an effort to sprint a mile. I run as a hobby and have definitely felt the difference. My main sport is swimming, and I can tell you if you can swim 20 laps, that's a 500 in swimming terms, in a good mile time: 5:30. That would be the equivalent of calorie burning in 1 mile. But a 5:30 in a 500 is really good in swimming. Do you get what I'm trying to say?
An average team swimmer can do a 500 in lets say 6-7 minutes, which is an ok time for running a mile. A mile in swimming should take between 14-25 minutes, depending on the swimmer. Does this make sense. You cannot compare the two miles. Swimming is way beyond the demand of running a mile.
