Yes, you can be a lifeguard! But I wouldn't wear my contacts for this test. I was as blind as a bat (until I got Lasik in my 20's). I would just take out my contacts for this drill. I could still see the black brick and retrieve it. This is usually the only time I would take them out. I also always had a spare pair in my bag in case I lost one at work. This is a great job I really enjoyed my years as a lifeguard. Good Luck!
thats a stupid question.

depends on the type of contacts you use. i usd to have expressions and i could swim and open my eyes underwater and they wouldnt move at all, but now i got acuvue and they move out of place if i open my eyes under water and they have come out a few times.

you eventually get use to it i know a life guard who really need s glass 's but she didn't use contacts on the test .try training with out the contacts. see if u don't really need the contact but ask a life guard if its best to use contacts when swimming .

Fill your tub (or sink) with water, stick your face in and open your eyes. Shake your head back and forth. Do your contacts come out? (I imagine they will but I don't know for sure.)
Why can't you use goggles? What if you wore glasses, would they tell you that you just couldn't be a lifeguard?

You can wear contacts. I wear contacts and I was a full-time life guard for 2 years. You can wear goggles for all water training. A lot of the guards wear goggles for training. For the test, I would recommend taking your contact out for grabbing the brick if you need to open your eyes. I would ask the instructor what people normally do who wear contacts during the test. You might not even need to open your eyes for this part. I was able to swim over the brick, then go straight down and grab it from the bottom of the pool.
The instructor should understand that you don't want to risk losing your contacts for a test, but if it came down to rescuing a person you wouldn't have a problem.
