Is swimming 300 yards hard?

I'm going to have to complete a lifeguard test soon and I haven't swam for a few months. Although I am in decent shape and have good stamina. I was wondering how hard it is to swim 300 yards nonstop without a time limit. Is it doable for someone without practice?

300 yards is probably doable, but yes, you should practice before your test. As a heads up, most lifeguard pre-req tests are done in groups. So, multiple people will be swimming 300 yards at one time, most likely. While there is no time limit on your 300yd swim, this is your first impression on the instructor and your classmates. It doesn't look good or make you feel good if everyone in your class finishes their pre-req swim and you still have 4 laps to go. Also, keep in mind that when you swim with people who are competitive swimmers, you may subconsciously try to keep pace with them, causing you to over-exert yourself. The key is to practice beforehand and control/pace yourself during the test. Good luck.

It is not hard, I am not even that fit and this past summer I swam about 500 yards from a boat to the beach. In the end I was pretty tired but I didn't have any major problems.

Without practice, it won't be easy. Get into a pool and just swim a few laps. If you're up for it, then try doing the 300 just to see if you can.

If you are in good shape for swimming it shouldn't be too bad. You just gotta make it without stopping and id say switch between free and backstroke. Good luck

Not at all, although I only say that because I swim over 3,000 yards daily.

if you save your energy, it shouldn't be too bad. Time is not an issue here so just take it slow. Also choose a stroke you are most comfortable with. If they let you to switch between strokes that would be perfect and can be very helpful.

I personally think it is easy. At my regular high school swim team practice, we swim on average 5000 yds everyday.
